I'm a HUGEE fan of Dou Dou Bake and I always feel so excited going there! The excitement the night before needing to wake up super early to avoid the queue, I feel like a kid who's excited to go to a school trip next day. Right now I am a 22 years old adult who gets excited going to a cafe... not sure if that's a normal thing. I visited Dou Dou Bake 2 times so I'm combining everything into 1 post, this is gonna be long read so grab a cuppa tea first before you continue hehe.

I always make sure to come here before 11am on a weekday just to avoid the queue but no matter what there WILL always have one. The first time I went there was at least a 2 hours wait (on a Tuesday) so we decided to take away. The other time I reached around 10am and had to queue for 40 mins so we dine in! Inside the cafe there are very limited seating, and people (like me, guilty :C ) will take quite a while dining in to take tons of pictures. After it's our turn for our seats, we walked in and we're welcome with this BEAUTIFUL sight of pastries.

A Close up of Dou Dou pastries

A mountain of Croissants and Pain Au Chocolat

Pain Au Chocolate (RM 10) and Morning Citrus Rolls (RM 6)

Mixed Berries Danish (RM 16)

Chocolate Tarts (RM 16) & Lemon Tarts (RM 14)
I mean... what a sight. You will literally want to order everything they have here but to save your wallet or purse from crying, I'm here to recommend you the worthy ones and save your money!

Dou Dou Breakfast (RM 34)
The Dou Dou Breakfast was AS GOOD AS IT LOOKS! The perfectly scrambled eggs, sausage, avocado, mushroom and salad was THE BEST! This was the best chicken sausage I ever had?? and THE AVOCADO was sprinkled with some flaky salt and pepper which i loveee. The seasonal salad was really nice and refreshing too, had a bit of sweetness to it. Everything but the sourdough toast, take a closer look, the bread crust is burnt and black, we didn't noticed it until we were cutting it as it was covered by the beauty of the egg. The crust was uneatable and was a BIG shame, still find a bit weird that they served such a burnt toast to us... The bread was very chewy and quite an exercise for your jaw. Anyway if it wasn't for the burnt toast, this would be the best big breakfast i ever had.

Small Dou Breakfast (RM 26)
The small dou breakfast was unlike anything I had, it has caramelised grapefruit, honey, cheese, mushroom, tomato, salad and sourdough bread. Initially I thought this was an odd combination of flavours because I never eaten all these food components at once. I was regretting not ordering the big breakfast but after I had a bite, I was surprised I actually love it?! It was very refreshing and wasn't too heavy. My favourite bit was the caramelised grapefruit, it was juicy and sweet! However the bread here was a bit burnt as well and was super hard to eat. Nevertheless, I was hungry AF and ate it all!

Eggs on Toast (RM 16)
If you don't want the extra stuff from Dou Dou Breakfast, this will be perfect cause the scrambled eggs was the STAR of the show! I think Dou Dou makes the best scrambled eggs around KL so I'll highly recommended ordering at least this if you're dining in!

Aftermath of Brunch
This just shows how much we enjoyed this brunch that we literally wiped CLEAN the plates! It was too good to leave any crumbs behind! Other than the burnt toast (hoping that's a one off mistake) and forcing myself to drink that horrible chai latte that caused it costs RM 16, everything was perfect. Oh and can we talk about how cute and elegant the cutlery looks?!?

Croissant (RM 9) , Mushroom Danish (RM 16) , Chai Latte (RM 16) & Iced Chocolate (RM 16)
The best thing from here is their croissants for me! I tried it once at One Half x Laika and having it again, my mind was still blown away again. The croissant was so flaky, you can feel the beautiful and even layers of it while you’re eating it. So fluffy at the same time with the right amount of butter! A lot of croissants tend to be too buttery but this was PERFECTION. I totally understand croissant are so difficult to make, the time and techniques into it is crazy! And Malaysia doesn’t make it any easier to make thanks to the hot weather, so I respect Dou Dou even more by mastering the techniques and recipe! The croissant here deserves all the love and attention. Yes they’re a bit on the pricey side, but personally they’re worth it because the amount of time and effort to perfecting it, it’s more than it’s price. Super flaky yet buttery and light at the same time, you can clearly see the amount of layers in it and it’s BEAUTIFUL.
The Mushroom Danish was a so so to me, the danish was good and flaky and the mushroom was nice and juicy, however I personally think the textures didn’t go well together. I had a Chai Latte which I regretted ordering, I think I’m just not a chai latte person too. However a friend of mine told me she had their chai latte a few times but it is quite inconsistent. The other was an a Iced Chocolate which was mediocre too.

Croissants (RM 9), Pistachio Rose Escargot (RM 12) & Lotus and Seasalt Bun (RM 10)
So this was taken during my first visit I only bought their pastries hehe and ate it in the car... The croissants was exactly what I mentioned above, their quality of croissants are always maintained. Here's the thing I recommend skipping, their pistachio rose escargot and the lotus bun were just alright for me. The lotus bun was lacking biscoff taste in it and tasted abit like your regular bread but you overpaid it. Then their pistachio rose croissant is visually beautiful, but I would say it taste nothing much actually, wish it had more pistachio flavour.
I didn't take a picture of it (can't believe i didn't) but their Pain Au Chocolat is to die for as well, with it's super flaky layered pastry, it's heaven in the mouth. So the must order from their pastries are the croissant and pain au chocolat!!

Pastries & Coffee to go

Iced Latte & Flat White
We ordered a Iced Latte and a Flat White, both were really nice but I prefer the flat white hehe. It wasn’t the best coffee but it was decent cuppa hehe.

Country Sourdough (RM 20 for whole loaf)
We also bought their sourdough bread back home to eat for the next day. Personally it was a nice sourdough but find it too chewy to our liking, like it wasn't soft enough. Do give their half loaf (RM 11) a try, but there're just better sourdough alternatives out there for me personally.
Ok another thing that gets me excited when I come to Dou Dou is THIS SCENE! The kitchen at the back and you can see where all the magic happens! As someone who's really interested in baking, this IS the dream. I barely could contain my happiness just seeing all these!

To the design of Dou Dou Bake, it’s unlike any bakeries or cafes out there. I love the raw and natural designs, the concrete wall and floor went so well with the natural sunlight and green landscape outside. I was reading an article about their design and that the wood used for their benches are from old houses in Penang. It’s interesting to me because those wood are history and have their own story. They also mentioned the cold palette of the space, allows the pastries to stands out which I agree! If I open a cafe myself one day, this will be the place I'll be getting inspiration from.

The best place to sit at the window to get that natural sunlight

I’m a sucker for interior design and love it when I learn about the meanings, effort and the vision of it. This is the perfect place to enjoy a nice cuppa coffee and the AMAZING pastries, while appreciating and admiring the hard work put into the design of the space. Honestly, every corner is picture worthy and tons of natural sunlight everywhere so everywhere you sit, you'll get great shots!

The perfect place to take your ootd pic
This place has been all over Instagram for months and I think it deserve all the love and attention! This isn’t just an Instagram worthy place to take your ootd, it’s more than that and I really hope people will learn about the deeper meanings of their designs and APPRECIATE the beautifully baked pastries here hehe cause it ain't easy. People who says it’s overhype are LYING! It’s totally worth the hype and I sincerely wish them success.
